When is a push the right choice?
Groove cutting is the method of choice when milling is not technically feasible—particularly for blind grooves, very short grooves, or components with limited space. A linearly moving cutting tool removes material layer by layer, thereby producing precise groove geometries.
Stickel GmbH has many years of experience in slotting and is capable of producing both simple keyways and complex custom profiles in blind holes—with high dimensional accuracy and clean edges.
Whether it's a single part or a small batch—we provide quick quotes and reliable delivery. We also offer express production for time-sensitive components upon request.
Our focus
Mortising blind and through slots
Slotting does not require through-holes or long workpieces. We can also create slots in areas where broaching is not possible due to the design of the part.
Groove cutting according to a drawing
Groove cutting enables the production of keyways, splines, and custom profiles—both as through-grooves and in blind-hole configurations—a key advantage over broaching. We manufacture your grooves precisely to your drawings, with clean edges and high repeatability—from single parts to large-scale production runs.
Socket grooves available
Slots that aren't through-holes—no problem. The mortising process works even in blind holes and tight enclosures.
Flexible geometries
Short grooves, special profiles, unusual cross-sections—slotting is the most flexible method for creating internal grooves.
Ideal for repairs and individual parts
No need for special tools, unlike with broaching—perfect for replacement parts, repairs, and one-off items that need to be available immediately.
All materials
Steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass—we machine all machinable materials according to your specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ – Groove Jointing
What is the difference between pushing and clearing?
In broaching, a tool is drawn through the workpiece in a single stroke—which requires a through-hole. Slotting uses a cutter that moves linearly up and down and can therefore also produce blind grooves. Broaching is faster and more cost-effective for large production runs, while slotting is more flexible for individual parts, small production runs, and special applications.
Can you also cut blind slots?
Yes—that’s one of the biggest advantages of push-type machining. We can also machine grooves in blind holes and housings where there is no clearance for the tool to exit. Please specify the available clearance or exit path in the drawing.
What is the minimum lot size for slot punching?
We do not have a minimum order quantity. We manufacture starting from a single piece—whether it’s a single part, a prototype, a replacement part, or a large-scale production run. Groove cutting is particularly cost-effective for single parts and small production runs, as no special broaching tool is required. Of course, we are also happy to manufacture larger quantities.
How soon will I receive a quote?
If all the necessary information is provided, you will typically receive a quote within 24–48 hours. For urgent requests, we can respond even faster—just let us know.
What do I need to submit with my request?
A technical drawing that includes all relevant dimensions, tolerances, slot type (blind or through), and material specifications is sufficient. We also accept CAD files (DXF, DWG, STEP, PDF).
Do you also ship internationally?
Yes, we deliver not only throughout Germany, but also to other European countries and beyond—via DPD or a freight forwarder. For international shipments, simply contact us, and we’ll work out the shipping method and terms on a case-by-case basis.
