Why resharpen?

More economical than a new part

A dull clearing tool results in higher cutting forces, poorer surface finishes, and unnecessary scrap. In many cases, resharpening is significantly faster and more cost-effective than manufacturing a new tool.

Save money

In many cases, reconditioning existing HSS broaches is significantly less expensive than purchasing a new part.

Fast processing

By default, re-sharpening is performed within 5 business days of receipt of the goods.

Proven quality

The tools are ground and inspected in-house—with direct quality control by our team.

Scope of Services

What is checked and processed during re-sharpening

We fully regrind HSS keyway broaches entirely in-house. During this process, the cutting geometry is professionally restored, and the tool is then inspected.

The exact grinding area depends on the condition of the tool, its geometry, and the wear pattern.

  • Regrinding the cutting geometry
  • Inspection of the cutting teeth
  • Inspection for cracks and damage
  • Modification of existing chip breakers
  • Dimension check after grinding
  • Evaluation of additional refocusing cycles
Practice

Blunt vs. Resharpened

The difference is immediately apparent under close inspection—and is directly noticeable in dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and cutting performance.

Blunt keyway broach — wear mark visible on the free surface
Dull — Needs sharpening
Worn cutting edge — wear mark (VB) visible on the rake face, increased cutting force, dimensional drift
Regrained keyway broach — sharp cutting edge after reconditioning
Sharpened — ready for use
Freshly resharpened cutting edge — sharp edge, precise geometry, consistent surface finish
When should you resharpen?

Common signs of wear and tear

Visible on the workpiece

  • Increasing shear forces
  • Poorer surface quality
  • Burr formation at the groove
  • Dimensional deviations
  • Changes in chip formation

Identifiable by the tool

  • Wear marks on the open surface
  • Cutting edges appear dull
  • Cavities in individual teeth
  • Run-in discoloration or scuffing
  • Damaged calibration teeth
Best practice: Have tools resharpened whenever possible before significant chipping or damage occurs. This preserves more resharpening cycles and maximizes the tool’s overall service life.
